Single-cell workshop: investigating human health and disease at single-cell resolution
Single-cell experiments continue to grow in terms of their scale and variety. Dr. Andrew Adey recently presented his team’s unique combinatorial indexing approach, where single cells are barcoded multiple times. This method scales up the number of cell profiles that can be produced without sacrificing data quality. Nanowell chips, as with the ICELL8 cx system, further increase the indexing scale, enabling hundreds of thousands of high-quality cell profiles to be generated in a single low-cost experiment.
This was presented as part of our Takara Bio Single-Cell Workshop, Spring 2021..
Featured webinar:
In this talk, Dr. Andrew Adey discusses his lab’s combinatorial indexing approach to single-cell sequencing. Some highlights include:
- Utilizing the sci-ATAC seq protocol to access chromatin
- Improving libraries with symmetrical-strand single-cell combinatorial indexing (s3) techniques
- Using the ICELL8 cx system to further increase the indexing scale

Dr. Andrew Adey is an associate professor of Molecular & Medical Genetics at the Oregon Health & Science University, USA. The Adey Lab is currently focused on the development and deployment of single-cell technologies to profile a variety of epigenetic properties with an emphasis on chromatin accessibility as well as the spatial tracking of cell positions. These technologies are being deployed to better understand fundamentals of gene regulation and their implications in neurodevelopment and cancer.
