World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress
Takara Bio is proud to be a supporter of the World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress.
The AMR Congress 2023 was held from September 7–8 in Philadelphia, PA, and featured an exciting talk by Dr. Muziasari, founder and CEO of Resistomap, on her efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Windi Muziasari
CEO of Resistomap
To mitigate the global health threat posed by AMR, it is necessary to identify, characterize, and monitor the levels of resistance in environmental hotspots where it is developing and spreading, such as wastewaters from hospitals, agricultural farms, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. A solution is needed to allow routine monitoring of environmental AMR globally.
Resistomap has been working on global monitoring of AMR in the environment and provides an end-to-end service for detection and quantification of genes associated with AMR, mobile genetic elements, and pathogens from environmental samples using the SmartChip Real-Time PCR System. This high-throughput culture-independent method is combined with data analysis to provide customers with informative data on the AMR levels in their samples.
Since 2019, Resistomap has analysed over 10,000 environmental samples across 45 countries. showing that the most detected and abundant genes differ based on regions and sample types. With routine monitoring, the data can be used to measure the risk of resistance prevalence and spread, and as an early warning for potential outbreaks of resistant bacteria.
