High-throughput pathogen detection
Specialized RT-qPCR detection methods have been developed for a wide variety of pathogens, including respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, antibiotic-resistant and disease-causing bacteria, and other pathogens affecting human health. Automating these detection methods enables the monitoring and large-scale screening required to manage disease outbreaks.
The SmartChip Real-Time PCR System is an automated qPCR system that allows high-throughput screening of pathogens with precision, reproducibility, and speed.
- Capture transcripts down to single-digit copy numbers
- Reduce hands-on time
- Maximize the number of samples processed per day
- Detect SARS-CoV-2 with accuracy and speed
- Monitor antibiotic-resistant bacteria from human and environmental samples
The SmartChip Real-Time PCR System workflow. The SmartChip system lets you go from sample to data in under four hours and processes over 10,000 reactions in a day. Add your samples and assays to the SmartChip MyDesign Kit and then analyze using the SmartChip Real-Time PCR System.

SmartChip bacterial vaginosis panel boosts output while saving costs and time
The SmartChip Real-Time PCR System has been used for quick and accurate identification of microorganisms causing an imbalance characteristic of bacterial vaginosis (BV), which affects over 21 million women in the United States annually. While the specific causes of BV are unknown, identifying microorganisms in samples can lead to a deeper understanding of the disease.
To aid researchers in these efforts, we developed a SmartChip BV panel (below). The power of the SmartChip BV panel is in the ability to screen 144 samples across all 22 assays in just 30 minutes of hands-on time and six hours of total run time. Other groups are currently adapting panels for sexually transmitted and urinary tract infections to the platform.
BV panel targets | |
---|---|
Atopobium vaginae | Mobiluncus curtisii |
Bacteroides fragilis | Mobiluncus mulieris |
Candida albicans | Mycoplasma genitalium |
Candida glabrata | Mycoplasma hominis |
Candida krusei | Neisseria gonorrhoeae |
Candida parapsilosis | Prevotella bivia |
Candida tropicalis | Trichomonas vaginalis |
Chlamydia trachomatis | Ureaplasma urealyticum |
Gardnerella vaginalis | Human albumin (control) |
HSV1 | RNaseP (control) |
HSV2 | Β-globulin (control) |
Our BV panel identifies 19 bacterial, yeast, protozoan, fungal, and viral pathogens and includes three internal positive controls.
The SmartChip system enables a simple, reproducible workflow that provides sensitive, specific, and accurate identification of microorganisms in a high-throughput platform that decreases the cost and time per sample.

Do you provide assays, primer sets, or panels for COVID-19, antibiotic-resistance surveillance, or pathogen detection applications?
Aside from our complete clinical testing kits, we currently do not offer any assays for these applications. In many cases, our partners already have their own panels defined or supplied. However, we have multiple relationships with providers of primers and panels and can help you find the resources and suppliers you need to build a panel for your applications.
Can you help with nucleic acid purification or sample collection?
We have a large selection of nucleic acid purification products that we would be glad to discuss with you and help to implement into your workflows. We do not currently provide tools for sample collection.
