Takara Bio, Inc expands GMP facility to accommodate a variety of modalities and strengthen supply chain

San Jose, CA—February 24, 2022—Takara Bio Inc. will open an expansion of its manufacturing facility, the Center for Gene and Cell Processing (CGCP), at the company’s headquarters in Shiga, Japan. The expansion of the facility, which went into operation in 2020, features increased production capacity. New equipment includes 200 L bioreactors, 2,000 L fermenters, and large flow centrifuge and purification systems.

The GMP facility expansion will address a growing demand for CDMO services. It will also meet the need for a wider variety of manufacturing modalities and raw materials. Manufactured products will include DNA and RNA vaccines, gene therapy and cancer immunotherapy drugs, and regenerative medicines. Full operation of the CGCP is planned for 2023.
